Equally, his unflinching recollections of his time in prison as far from the Beautiful Game as anyone can imagine, and fascinating for it. Kerry's stunningly successful career at Chelsea (he remains the club's third-highest goal scorer of all time) has equally ensured that he remains loved by fans despite his troubles.

Kerry Dixon played for Chelsea from 1983-1991 and was part of the 1986 World Cup team. Since retiring, he has worked as a pundit for Chelsea TV. Co-author Harry Harris is a football reporter who has twice been named British Sports Journalist of the Year.
