It tackles the root of and some mischaracterizations of the subjects we are all talking about. On the War on Terrorism: "What worries me is that I am not sure any of the Republicans, or any Democrat, is ready to 'go to the mats.' And, ergo, I am concerned that our current leaders are simply incapable of creating a winning war strategy". On Social Justice and Tolerance: "The tree of life grows above ground.
It flourishes in the sun and breathes the oxygen in the air. It can blossom with beauty and bring fruit to our tables. It is the essence of life and promulgation.
The roots, however, grow where it is dark and they can be invasive and destructive. They tend to feed off of others and suck the vitality out of their neighbors. Some roots systems are far greater in size and reach than their above ground brothers.
They survive where most other species go to die". On Bipartisanship: "The state of affairs in America is at a point of distress. It is becoming increasingly difficult to gather clear majorities, to legislate simple, easy to follow rules that actually achieve peaceful resolutions".
On the Corruption of Our Educational System: "After suffering through several decades of intentional 'dumbing down' of students in public schools, Democrats have made a deal with the devil; give us your vote and control, and we will take care of your basic human needs. And as a result, more and more people in America are disengaging from the duties of being a citizen, of being an informed voter, of working for a living, of providing for a family, of being self dependent, and of supporting the country that gave them the opportunity to be so lazy". On the Redefinition of Roles: "Progressives are more like black widow spiders.
They live in, and are perfectly happy to stay in, their homespun world. Their web of insulation allows them to ignore accountability, judgment, and standards. In fact, they associate standards with a bourgeois straight jacket, especially for women".
On the Definition of Americanism: "The premise that America's power and influence was rooted in its wealth was wrong to begin with. To the contrary, our strength comes from America's magical stuff. It is something intangible, something invulnerable, something no measure of evil, no amount of violence or bloodshed can destroy".
"Turn Right at Lost" documents a journey of transformational moments that have formed the author's passion for preserving our unprecedented grand social experiment. It is a realistic, sometimes humorous, but mostly a personal and pointed assessment of the place in history American parents, teachers, students, and workers will play in the future of America.
