Some brief overview of this book

He has a point as the elephant on the bookshelf, R.M.

Pirsig's 'Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' (1974) is more philiosphical musing on 'Arete/Quality' than motorbikes. I've read many books on motos, and agree 'Perfect' is a fine vehicle to explain their attraction to a range of prospective male & female riders. Pierson communicates the many reasons why we ride, whether it's her particular passion for Moto Guzzis - or a general bent for riding in the cold rain, despite the omnipresent danger of slipping and crashing.

To her credit, she extols Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses, and for me the book peaked in an all woman training weekend at Laconia Raceway with AMA SuperBike champ Reg Pridmore & son Jason. You can learn more about bikes in a day on the racetrack than a year on the street. Oddly, racetracks are safer than public roads, to boot.

Best of all, Pierson cites Diane Wakoski's poetry, reminding lucky me (& Mewyf) that I've pretty much recovered from the broken neck.
