When Nadiyya wakes up one morning to find that her guilt ghost, Sarah, has disappeared, she's not quite sure what to think—or how to feel. Nadiyya had considered Sarah's haunting a nuisance; after all, they'd barely even known each other when she was alive. But now that Sarah's gone, the prospect of finally being unhaunted fills Nadiyya with the competing emotions of hopefulness and despair.

As Nadiyya moves through the next three days—reading scripted condemnations to desperate debtors at her collection-agency job and visiting the local bar where haunteds and their ghosts gather—she ponders the whole summonings phenomenon. Why are only 10 percent of people haunted? Are the unhaunted guiltless, or simply hiding the truth?

And who suffers the most—the guilty living or the ghosts themselves, bound in death to someone who'd hurt them in life? Entertaining and insightful, The End of the Summonings explores the complex web of regret, grief, intimacy, and joy that comes with moving on.
