The repercussions of Stalingrad have echoed for nearly half a century. In Dogs Do You Want To Live Forever (originally entitled: Hunde wollt ihr ewig leben), Austrian author and World War II combat veteran Fritz Wöss has written a powerful anti-war novel and has kept the vow he made to his fellow soldiers in 1943: "To tell the story of what really happened in Stalingrad".

The repercussions of Stalingrad have echoed for nearly half a century. One and a half million soldiers of the Eurasian continent were facing and crushing each other on both sides of the front in a cruel, politically pointless, internecine battle. The novel vividly describes the horrors of the vast frozen battlefield, the uncaring machinations of the Nazi bureaucracy, and, above all, the sacrifices and suffering of the soldiers on the front.

Dogs Do You Want To Live Forever, first published by the author in 1957, became an instant best seller that immediately attracted international attention. It has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and English, and has sold nearly one million copies in Europe and Latin America. „Telling people about what really happened in Stalingrad.

The Pain a soldier had to suffer and what he was able to endure is what defined his greatness. So that succeeding generations don't repeat the mistakes of the past and march into a new Stalingrad, my sole purpose is to speak out and warn them of the danger". Fritz Wöss was one of 6.000 survivors of the „Kesselschlacht of Stalingrad".

And he made a promise to his fellow soldiers. With this book he fulfills that promise and tells his story of the fight of the „6. Armee", that marched against Stalingrad and was destroyed in August 1942.

Wös's novel tells of fear and hope, of military and human failure, of heroism and resignation and – in the name of about 230.000 soldiers, who did not survive Stalingrad and its aftermath – warns to never march into a new Stalingrad.
