Some brief overview of this book

Gold makes monsters of men… Alan Tring's murdered father left him in charge of one of the largest horse ranches in Nevada. But no one told him that inheriting a Kingdom this size would not only bring wealth, but with a whole other set of troubles. Luckily, Alan can count on the loyalty of the trusty Diamond-O outfit – Shiner, his childhood companion, the range boss Tex Bro Gold makes monsters of men… Alan Tring's murdered father left him in charge of one of the largest horse ranches in Nevada.

But no one told him that inheriting a Kingdom this size would not only bring wealth, but with a whole other set of troubles. Luckily, Alan can count on the loyalty of the trusty Diamond-O outfit – Shiner, his childhood companion, the range boss Tex Broome and his father's right-hand man, Old ‘desert rat' Timothy. When a developer from the East by the name of O'Dale shows up with plans to build a dam, Alan and his outfit react in the way they know how – with cunning and a whole lot of lead.

But O'Dale has his own supporters and Trigger Anson is not a man to be messed with. A plan is quickly formed and Old Timothy lays claim to a heap of gold ore in the Red Desert. Soon, the gold-fevered residents of Virginia City and the workers of O'Dale's dam are all rushing there to make their fortune.

Alan appears to have beaten the Easterner this time – but for how long? Chaos and disorder soon descend and when the Diamond-O horses start to disappear and a worker shows up dead, the real trouble begins. The outfit's foray into the desert, in search of the horse thieves, prompts a meeting with a certain Miss Maureen Murphey.

But are those enchanting blue eyes hiding something? It seems Alan and the rest of the Diamond-O team must rely on more than their fast gun-hands if they are to apprehend the thieves. Will they catch them?

Or is Alan not cut out to be the Boss of the Diamond O? Praise for Gordon Landsborough 'A punchy tale coupled with plenty of action - an engaging read!' - Philip McCormac, bestselling western author Gordon Landsborough (1913-1984) was a publisher, author and bookseller. Writing tales about the exploits of gun-toting cowboys fighting out on the arid sands of the Wild West, Landsborough was himself a pioneering in the English paperback publishing world of the 1950s.

He was widely known amongst his peers as the ‘maverick publishing genius'. His other western adventures include Battle at Broken Knee, Flaming Frontier, Union Soldier, The Stolen Bounty and Secret of the Cannon.
